The Concept
The Imagination Station is our newest early childhood educational facility combining the principles put forth by the early childhood theorist, Jean Piaget along with the ideas of noted developmental psychologist, Lev Vygotsky to offer an interactive, imaginative experience that allows children to learn and explore in an engaging, play-based environment.
When combined, these two learning theories, commonly known as Social Constructivism, lead to what we know to be the most effective model for educating young children.
Simply put, by blending practical activities that teach children how the world works with pretend play where kids can become anything they dream of- an astronaut, a chef, or even a wizard is a fun, creative way for little ones to use their imaginations, create stories, and learn about the world while they play. It’s all about finding the right mix, actually teaching essential skills while giving children the freedom to explore, imagine, and have fun!
Who We Are
We are Melissa and Ryan, and along with our three children, we are beyond excited to bring Imagination Station to our Abington community!
The idea for this dream began many years ago, even before we started Abington Kids Creative Learning Centers. When raising our children, we spent countless hours playing dress-up, “making breakfast” in a play kitchen for baby dolls, hosting “tea parties” for stuffed animals, repairing toy cars with “broken” wheels, and “saving the town from dragons.” Stepping into a world of make believe helped our children learn, grow, and develop in many important ways. As a certified teacher, I understand the importance of pretend play; however as parents, we quickly discovered the powerful impact on our children’s emotional and cognitive development. Ryan and I both thought our community needs this!
We are so excited to finally share our dream with you! Abington’s (soon to be) newest attraction for children, Imagination Station, will include a custom city built to scale, soft-play zone for our littlest learners, private party area for unforgettable birthday celebrations, open-play hours, playful storytelling adventures, and of course the thing we do best, an educational childcare facility that will serve an additional 150 students ages birth-5 where they can dream big all while having fun! Kids will go wild with imagination, putting a “fire” out at the fire station, shopping in a grocery store, serving meals at our diner, becoming engineers at our construction site, driving the pedal cars throughout the town, dancing up on stage, and so much more!
Now is the time to turn our dream into reality. Join us over the next several months as we design and build a 15,000 sq ft building to make every kids dream of play come to life! We look forward to sharing our journey with you, involving our community, and above all, providing a space where little dreamers come to play and learn.
